We Have Solutions for Your Tough Varicose Veins

We Have Solutions for Your Tough Varicose Veins

You used to love to break out the leg-revealing clothing during the warmer months, but these days you’re keeping your legs under wraps, thanks to varicose veins. The problem is that, if you’re waiting for these veins to fade away on their own, you’re in for a very long haul.

The one universal truth for the millions of people who have varicose veins (they affect about one-third of adults) is that, once the veins pop to the surface, they’re not going anywhere unless you seek our help.

The good news is that vascular expert, Dr. Satjit Bhusri, and the team here at Upper East Cardiology’s Vein Institute specialize in varicose vein treatments, and we have several great ones from which to choose.

Bringing on the heat to get rid of varicose veins

First up in our impressive varicose vein arsenal is a radiofrequency (RF) ablation procedure called ClosureFast®

To get started, we make you comfortable in the treatment room, and then we administer a local anesthetic in the area we’re targeting. Once you’re ready, we make a small incision and insert a catheter into the varicose vein.

Using advanced imaging to guide us, we release bursts of RF energy through the small tube and into the walls of the target vein. These bursts of heat energy eventually cause the blood vessel to collapse and close up.

Rest assured, your blood will find its way to healthier blood vessels so the circulation in your legs won’t be disrupted after your ClosureFast procedure.

Sealing up your varicose veins

Another cutting-edge approach for varicose veins is our VenaSeal® procedure. With VenaSeal, we inject a small amount of medical adhesive into the diseased vein to seal the vein shut. Just as with our other vein treatments, your blood will reroute to healthier blood vessels, and the treated vein will collapse and be reabsorbed by your body.

A few injections away from varicose vein-free legs

Rounding out our great varicose vein toolkit is Varithena®, which is an FDA-approved microfoam sclerosant medication. With this treatment, we inject a foaming agent into your varicose vein that irritates the blood vessel, causing it to collapse and be reabsorbed by your body.

In most cases, we only administer one or two injections per vein and the entire treatment takes less than an hour.

As you can see, we have several options, and we pride ourselves on only offering the latest, evidence-based varicose veins treatments available. We also offer surgical solutions for larger varicose veins that might need a more aggressive approach than these minimally invasive options, though this isn’t the case most of the time.

To figure out which varicose vein treatment is right for your goals, you can request an appointment online at our New York City office on the Upper East Side of Manhattan or call us at (212) 752-3464.
